Facebook has unveiled its new company name, focusing on the Metaverse. Facebook’s new brand is called “Oculus” and they are now partnering with established VR gaming companies to create content for their platform.
Facebook has announced that it is changing its name to “Facebook Inc.” in an effort to reflect the company’s new focus on virtual reality. The change means that Facebook will now be known as “Facebook” and not just “Facebook”.

During today’s Connect 2021 event, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed that his company would be operating under a new name. The firm behind the world’s largest social network will now be known as Meta, a name selected to represent the corporation’s new emphasis on the metaverse—a word used to depict a future, sophisticated internet based on 3D virtual worlds and other cutting-edge technology. The metaverse, according to Meta, will be an obvious development of the web, allowing people to perform many things together that would be impossible in the actual world.
From Mark Zuckerberg, who wrote a long letter outlining his company’s new path and what the metaverse would enable:
You will be able to teleport as a hologram to the workplace without having to travel, to a concert with pals, or to your parents’ living room to catch up in the future. This will expand your options regardless of where you reside. You’ll have more time to focus on what matters to you, less time stuck in traffic, and a lower carbon impact.
Consider how many tangible items you have now that may one day be replaced by holograms. Instead of real items made in factories, your TV, your ideal work setting with multiple monitors, your board games, and more will be holograms developed by artists all over the globe.
You’ll switch between these experiences using various devices, including augmented reality glasses to remain present in the actual world, virtual reality to completely immerse yourself, and phones and laptops to hop in from current platforms. It’s not about spending more time in front of a screen; it’s about making the time we currently have more enjoyable.
Meta has also revealed a set of tools to aid in the creation of the metaverse. The Presence Platform, which will allow new mixed reality experiences on the Oculus Quest 2 VR device, and a $150 million investment in a new creator training program are among them.
