Battlefield 2042 is a multiplayer-focused buggy game that takes place in an expansive, dystopian world. It’s one of the most addictive games I’ve ever played and presents players with numerous options for how they want to play.
The Battlefield brand has created a name for itself in the video game industry since the release of Battlefield 1942 in 2002, thanks to its massive size and iconic “only in Battlefield” events. These concepts have been followed in every game in the series, and Battlefield 2042 is no exception. With nonstop heart-pumping action, unique moments that make every round seem new, and notably a bevy of performance problems and glitches, 2042 feels like it was built for series aficionados.
DICE, the creators of Battlefield 2042, promised an epic near-future shooter with three separate modes to experience Battlefield’s chaotic action, and that is exactly what we received. Battlefield 2042 provides something for everyone, whether you prefer a fast-paced all-out war shooter with no boring moments, a slow and methodical squad-based tactical shooter, or a throwback to World War II. In all three modes, though, you’ll encounter astounding performance problems, game-breaking bugs, and gameplay anomalies.
If you’re a lover of the Battlefield series, you’ll probably find Battlefield 2042 to be a lot of fun and exciting, despite the slew of faults that plagued its release.
All-Out Battle

DICE and Ripple Effect have done an incredible job of revitalizing the Battlefield experience to make it seem more action film-like than ever before. Playing a game with 128 people for 30 minutes is unlike anything else – you really get a sense of the enormity of each round as you play, and each one is different. You may be sniping at the rear of the map one round and then flying in headfirst on a hovercraft the next. Because the sandbox of 2042 is so unique, you may wonder whether anything is a glitch or a feature. For example, you may see a Hovercraft ascending a building like it’s nothing, and although this isn’t necessarily deliberate, it does give off a unique Battlefield atmosphere.
In the default game, Battlefield 2042 has certain issues with weapon selection. You may choose from 19 major weapons and three sidearms when the game is released. Furthermore, the weapons that seem viable are even fewer, with a small number of weapons dominating almost every game. The PP-29 is one of those weapons; being an SMG with plenty of ammunition, a long range, and a rapid firing rate that unlocks pretty early in the game, it feels exponentially better than any other automatic weapon in the game.
Battlefield 2042’s weapons aren’t the only ones suffering from an identity problem; the individuals you play as are as well. You may choose from four distinct classes in earlier Battlefield games: Assault/Medic, Support, Recon, and Engineer. Each of these classes had a distinct function to perform, which was simple to see when playing. With the emergence of Specialists in 2042, this identity is gone. Specialists all have a unique power or feature that enables them to fulfil some of the previous jobs, although they don’t have the same influence as troops in prior games. However, since each expert may utilize any weapon or gadget, you have greater flexibility in designing your loadouts. Players have greater flexibility, but their character identity suffers as a result.
What the hell is going on in Tarkov?

Hazard Zone, a perplexing, complicated, yet enjoyable mess, is one of the major modes in Battlefield 2042. Hazard Zone is inspired by games like Escape from Tarkov and The Hunt: Showdown, but it lacks the thrill necessary to make it interesting. The procedure for buying loadouts is unnecessarily convoluted. The game mode’s goal is a little perplexing and complicated. It is, in general, the least appealing aspect of Battlefield 2042.
Hazard Zone’s major flaw is its lack of danger. In most extraction royale-style games, you start with guns and equipment that you earned over numerous rounds, and you battle to gain more or lose everything. This isn’t the situation in Hazard Zone, where even good performance earns you a ridiculous number of credits. Sure, battling another team might get your pulse beating, but if you die, you’re probably not going to be terribly upset. Hazard Zone offers a lot of rewards with little risk.
Portal-based thinking

Portal is where Battlefield 2042 truly shines. Portal enables gamers to enjoy remastered versions of previous games. Not only that, but Portal lets users of the community to create their own game modes, such as Gun Game, Infection, and pretty much anything else. This is all 2042 needs to stay afloat in the FPS market for the foreseeable future.
It’s almost as if you’re playing multiple separate games at once. If you’re looking for a stripped-down WW2 game, try Battlefield 1942. Battlefield 3 is a great game to play if you want a nostalgic sensation of current military mayhem. With Portal, the possibilities are truly limitless. It’ll be interesting to observe how Battlefield 2042 evolves in relation to Portal and its backing from Ripple Effect, a former DICE LA company.
The final decision

Battlefield 2042 is a buggy, unpolished mess that has captivated me for days. It has its fair share of oddities, bugs, and performance problems that need to be addressed, but it truly does offer the user something unique in the FPS industry. There’s nothing quite like launching into a game with 63 other players as troops, planes, tanks, and helicopters all work together to achieve the same goals.
Battlefield games are notorious for having a rocky start, but they always become into terrific shooters with hours of fun to be had, and Battlefield 2042 seems to be following that tradition perfectly. It’ll be fascinating to watch how the early anti-2042 sentiment evolves over the next months and years, but for now, go blow everything up.
