BloodRayne Betrayal is a first-person shooter video game developed by Majesco Entertainment and published by Majesco Games. The game was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U in 2013.
The bloodrayne fresh bites review is a review of the game. It includes a brief description of the plot and a list of pros and cons.
I’m beginning to appreciate the ambition of publisher Ziggurat Games. Their whole gimmick is to remaster and re-release long-forgotten franchises from twenty, thirty, or even forty years ago on current platforms. BloodRayne, an edgelord-as-hell action series that produced a number of games and even a horrible Uwe Boll film back in the day, is one of their most famous titles right now. BloodRayne Betrayal, a 2D side-scrolling spinoff published in 2011, was recently restored by WayForward and re-released on current platforms as BloodRayne Betrayal: Fresh Bites.
I’m not a vampire, but that doesn’t mean I can’t pack a punch.
When BloodRayne Betrayal initially came out, I had never played it. I recall it being blasted by reviewers, so I opted to skip it at the box office, despite the fact that stupid schlock action is my bread and butter. Still, I was perplexed and intrigued as to why it was so reviled. Even at their weakest, WayForward can still produce a mediocre-at-best platformer with some of the company’s hallmark features, such as solid level design and Jake Kaufman’s great soundtrack. That and more may be found in BloodRayne Betrayal: Fresh Bites. To be honest, I had a lot of fun with this game. Now I’m wondering whether the original was just misinterpreted, or if WayForward corrected whatever issue the game had in the first place.
Fresh Bites is a 2D action platformer by BloodRayne. Its inspiration is self-evident: it aspires to be an old-school Castlevania. It’s a standard level-based action platformer with plenty of opponents, occasional leaping difficulties, and a slew of traps designed to punish you and teach you from your errors. The major distinctions are that your main weapon has a shorter range (albeit you do have a sidearm), you can jump atop opponents’ heads for some reason, and you’re a vampire. Do you want to regain your health? Bloodsucking is a technique for sucking blood from your victims. Oh, and stay away from streams of light if you don’t want to be fried alive.
This boss isn’t as difficult as he seems.
The fight was fantastic. It’s a fast-paced, visceral experience. Even though the game is mostly focused on pressing the X button like there’s no tomorrow, you can perform some air juggling by tossing opponents into the air, as well as utilize some of the environment’s items for additional damage, such as barrels and bombs. In order to improve your total score and rank at the conclusion of each level, you must perform stylish combinations similar to those seen in Devil May Cry. Betrayal of BloodRayne: Even if you believe you did a fantastic job, Fresh Bites isn’t ashamed to call you a worm and give you an F.
What the heck is this use of Comic Sans?
Now, this gaming cycle isn’t ideal in every way. The issue is with the platforming, especially with the manner you must leap to higher ledges. Rayne, the main character, is unable to execute a double jump. To go to higher platforms, you must use the same button combination as in Super Mario 64’s backward somersault. Even if you may get accustomed to this strange concept, I’m not sure why it was introduced in the first place. When you pull it off, though, it looks very elegant.
But it was the presentation of BloodRayne Betrayal: Fresh Bites that I enjoyed the most. Not only does the game have a fantastically animated comic book visual style (even if the use of Comic Sans is questionable at best), but it also sounds fantastic. It has a strong rocking music from video game composer extraordinaire Jake Kaufman, as well as some great voice acting by Laura Bailey and Troy Baker, to mention a few.
Its art style appeals to me much.
Is there anything I’m overlooking? I’ve always been told that BloodRayne Betrayal was a terrible game, one of WayForward’s poorest efforts. But, to be honest, I really liked it, despite it being a little janky and unjust at points. Either this is an underappreciated treasure, or the remaster addressed many of the original game’s flaws. In any case, BloodRayne Betrayal: Fresh Bites is a fantastic little platformer that’s ideal for lovers of old school Castlevania. It may have some sometimes dubious gameplay decisions, but it’s a terrific little platformer that’s perfect for fans of old school Castlevania.
Even though some of the character designs are a little too simple, the appearance has a fantastic comic book graphic style with fantastic animations. The use of Comic Sans, on the other hand… oof.

The controls are sometimes unresponsive, and the platforming is, to say the least, perplexing. With that stated, I had a lot of fun with the fighting and the general combo system in the game. It’s clumsy, but it works.

Not only does the game include an amazing Jake Kaufman-penned music, but the voice acting is much better than I anticipated, with a cast that includes some well-known celebrities.
|
Although BloodRayne Betrayal: Fresh Bites has many flaws, I found it to be a solid action platformer with a great presentation and some intriguing gameplay options. Given the negative press surrounding the original 2011 release, it’s also a lot less severe than I anticipated.

Final Score: 7.5
