Jensen Huang, the CEO of NVIDIA, has been named to the Time 100, an annual list compiled by the popular magazine to honor some of the world’s most important individuals.
Anyone with even a passing interest in the graphics business can understand why he was chosen, since the CEO and engineer was crucial in kick-starting the GPU era after establishing NVIDIA in 1993. In 1999, NVIDIA is credited with developing the GPU, a now-essential piece of technology that no gamer or professional can do without.

Huang ordered his firm Nvidia to convert processors intended to paint images on computer displays, known as graphics processing units or GPUs, to do other, more general-purpose computing tasks in 2003, despite widespread skepticism. The advances that resulted—along with powerful chips—laid the groundwork for far larger neural networks, which are at the heart of most of today’s AI. In the process, he has aided in the development of a revolution that enables phones to answer queries aloud, fields to spray weeds but not crops, and physicians to anticipate the characteristics of new medicines, among other marvels.
Huang’s risk paid off, owing to his status as one of the world’s most technologically adept CEOs. He’s also a big supporter of science and technology education and a caring steward of his workers. Huang’s team is well-positioned to continue pushing technological advancements for decades to come, with still-emerging AI technologies generating an insatiable need for additional computing.
Huang is the most prominent person in Time 100’s Innovators section, although he is joined on the list by a few other famous tech leaders. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, and Vitalik Buterin, the creator of the Ethereum blockchain technology, are among them.
